How precious to me are Your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! There is a way that seems right to me, but its end is the way to death. Lord, because my tongue is a restless evil, full of deadly poison, and all the power for life and death is in my tongue, guide my mouth to store up Your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Since out of the abundance of my heart my mouth speaks, let no unwholesome talk come out of my mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Make all my conversations today full of grace and seasoned with salt. Keep me protected as I dwell in Your shelter, saying all day long, “You are MY refuge and MY fortress, My God, in whom I trust. Make my ears test every word as my tongue tastes food. Give me a tongue that’s wise and brings healing. Teach my mouth to declare and decree a thing, that it will be established for me; so the light of God’s favor will shine on my ways. Fill my mouth with laughter and with songs of joy, so it will be said among all, “The LORD has done great things for me.” Teach me how to use my tongue to proclaim Your righteousness and Your praises all day long. Open wide my mouth and fill it with the perfect words of wisdom and knowledge. Whatever I do today, Lord, whether in my words or deeds, show me how to do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, with giving thanks to God. Whether I eat or drink or whatever I do today Lord, teach me how to do it all for the glory of God. Give me a heart that is glad today, Lord, and a tongue full of rejoicing, so that my body will rest secure.
