Seeds Have POWER; Therefore Words Have POWER

Seeds. What are they? They are small beginnings to big and wonderful things. Seeds start very small and don’t look like much, but grow into big and amazing things. That’s why God’s Word tells me not to despise small beginnings. Zech. 4:10

I clearly understand and believe in the seed principle.  I don’t wonder how a tree came to be or where a baby came from.  I know.  Clearly, I can see the power of a seed!  If I wasn’t aware of a seed’s potential and someone told me that it had this great power to produce such big results (abundance), I would either think that they had lost their mind or out of curiosity I might try to see this miracle in action.

Jesus said that words are seeds and can produce much fruit, 30-100 fold, depending on the soil where they are planted and the care they are given.  The soil refers to my heart. If I plant God’s word in my heart by confessing and meditating on it, I will see a harvest of righteousness, much fruit in my life. Seeds produce after their own kind. If it’s an apple seed I’ll definitely get a tree producing apples, not some other kind of fruit. Similarly, words bring increase. If I speak words of unforgiveness, anger, jealousy, hate, fear, doubt, or pride, they will all produce a harvest, but of the worst kind. But if I speak words of faith, hope, and love I will produce much beneficial fruit. Mark 4:13-20

Just as I wouldn’t be surprised to see apples from an apple tree, I shouldn’t be surprised when I see a tree (person) bearing bad fruit when they’ve been speaking (planting) bad seeds (words).  “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” Luke 6:43-45

I am a person like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever I do prospers, when I meditate on God’s Word day and night.  Ps. 1:2-3

Only seeds put into the ground can grow and prosper. And only if they’re put into good soil and cared for will the seeds produce 30-100 fold fruit. Seeds lacking soil get snatched up by birds, and seeds where thorns grow are choked out and unproductive. Anytime the seed is unable to take root it cannot grow and bear fruit.

I am a farmer that sows seeds. My heart is the garden where the seeds grow. Words are being sown everyday from my mouth and I will produce a harvest of what I’ve sown. I’ll be satisfied with good by the fruit of my mouth. The power for life or death is in my tongue. My words are literally steering my life to go in a direction of love, joy, peace, freedom, healing, and wholeness by the Holy Spirit, or they are steering me in a direction of fear, torment, anxiety, bondage and sickness. I can choose life words and have a life that prospers in all things and in health by speaking God’s word and giving thanks in everything.  Gal. 6:7-10; Prov. 12:14; Prov. 18:20-21; James 3:1-5; 3 John 1:2; Deut. 30:19-20; 1 Thess. 5:16-18

“The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry.” It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. By putting the word in my mouth and heart I will live in joy and peace. Where once there were thorns (curses), cypress trees (blessings) will grow. Where nettles (sin) grew, myrtles (righteousness) will sprout up. These events will bring great honor to the Lord’s name; they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.” I receive blessings and righteousness by simply speaking the word and giving thanks in everything!  Isaiah 55:10-13

We are people who want quick and instant results, but seeds take time to grow. They also take care, like watering, sunshine, and weeding. I learned this powerful lesson on weeds by experience. I had these beautiful flowers in a flowerpot and I saw this tiny weed grow up, but I didn’t pick it and I didn’t pick it and I didn’t pick it. Weeks went by and I never did anything about that weed. One day I was teaching a Bible lesson and I thought this weed would be perfect for my lesson. See, now this weed had grown over 3 feet tall and the entire pot of flowers was gone! I went out to pull up the weed, pulling with all my might, but it would not budge. I was unable to pull it out. The roots had covered over the entire pot. So I called on my son and he too could not pull up this weed! He went and got a shovel and had to cut out the weed! It became quite a lot of work getting that weed out which when it first showed up could have been pulled out with two fingers. And now the flowers were gone, so I needed to basically start over, planting good things in the pot.

I put the Word of God in my mouth and heart and I plant good seed and I will receive 30-100 fold fruit, the fruit of freedom, peace, love, joy, healing, etc… abundance of good things!  I will abound in blessings!  Rom. 10:6-12; Mark 4:20

If I’ve been speaking words (planting seeds) of doubt, the Bible says my heart, which is the ground for the seed, has become hardened. Seed cannot grow on hard ground.  Worrying, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desires for other things are what chokes the word, making it unfruitful and unable to grow.  These things choke out the seed and keep me from prospering. In Matthew 6:31, God asks why do I worry and talk about my worry.  I see that how I speak is critical to the condition of my heart and the fruit I bear in my life. God tells me above all else to guard my heart, for everything I do flows from it. Then He tells me how, by keeping my mouth free of perversity (a deceitful mouth), and keeping corrupt talk far from my lips. God tells me to hold fast to my confession of faith (speaking God’s Word) without wavering, for He who promised is faithful to perform His Word (grow His seed). God says not to be anxious but simply pray with thanks and my heart and mind will be guarded and I will receive peace. God’s will for me is to give thanks in everything to make me whole. Heb. 3:12-13; Prov. 4:23-24; Matt. 6:31-33; Heb. 10:23; Rom. 4:21; Phil. 4:6-7; Mark 4:18; 1 Thess. 5:16-24

I will not fall short of the grace of God, His favor, blessings, and supply, by letting a bitter root grow up to cause trouble and defile me. God says that by simply paying attention to His living and powerful seed (Word), getting it in my mind and heart that He will give me peace flowing like a river and I’ll receive life and health to my whole body. Isa 48:18; Prov. 4:20-22
